Welcome to the website of PEP Liberia

The People Empowerment Program (PEP Liberia) is a refugee-inspired not-for-profit, non-government organization initiated in Ghana in 2001 by Liberian refugees with initial assistance from Dutch Lay Missionaries of the Society of African Missions (SMA).

In 2001, PEP started with open air vocational training for youths of the Buduburam Refugee Camp in Ghana, on a voluntary basis. Few years later, the organization’s efforts resulted in a lively training center, offering integrated programs for hundreds of the camp’s youth, adolescents and adults. Graduates were led into enterprise development through setting up of micro-enterprises and small business initiatives.

PEP also supported agriculture for non-literate and semi-literate women on the camp. Through these programs PEP supported over 50 street kids and child venders to school and often was able to unite them with their families on the camp. PEP also established small income-generating businesses for vulnerable girls and the elderly.
In 2005, PEP returned to contribute to Liberia’s rebuilding process. The organization was accredited by the Republic of Liberia on February 25, 2005 to operate as a local NGO.

The logo of PEP shows a rising sun, symbolizing hope. This is the spirit of PEP, which comes from the belief in self-empowerment.
